Galina Karelova met with President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Maria Teresa Efua Asangono

The two officials discussed issues of bilateral cooperation and inter-parliamentary interaction.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Galina Karelova held a meeting with President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Maria Teresa Efua Asangono.

The Deputy Speaker conveyed greetings and regards on behalf of Federation Council Chair Valentina Matvienko.

“We highly value our traditionally friendly bilateral relations and consider Equatorial Guinea a significant partner in the African continent,” Galina Karelova said. “We do not have any serious differences in approaches to forming a just world order, promoting the rule of law and preserving the UN’s key role in solving global problems.”

Galina Karelova expressed gratitude for Equatorial Guinea’s well-reasoned position on many global and regional issues. “We are thankful for your decision to be among the authors of the resolution of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly on counteracting the glorification of Nazism, which is crucial for Russia, as well as for the support of Russian draft resolutions related to information security and non-deployment of weapons in space.”

The participants in the meeting also discussed bilateral cooperation and inter-parliamentary interaction.

“Our meetings on the sidelines of the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in October 2017 and the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum in St Petersburg in September 2018 were very fruitful and prompted a detailed discussion of the current and future bilateral cooperation and were an opportunity for us to agree on the implementation of joint initiatives,” the Deputy Speaker said.

Galina Karelova also said that the Agreement on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation between the Parliaments of Russia and Equatorial Guinea, signed in St Petersburg at the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum, was being actively implemented.

She added that in April, the Federation Council formed a group on cooperation with Equatorial Guinea, led by Senator Dmitry Kuzmin.

Maria Teresa Efua Asangono thanked Ms Karelova for a hospitable reception and invited a Federation Council delegation to visit Equatorial Guinea at their convenience.

First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Igor Kagramanyan also took part in the conversation.
