On the eve of the International Day of Parliamentarism, celebrated annually on 30 June, in accordance with a 22 May 2018 resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation calls on international parliamentary organizations and national parliaments to join forces in addressing the collective challenges facing humankind, including eliminating the economic inequality of countries and overcoming the consequences of the colonial past, preserving nature and environment for future generations, and protecting the rights of women, children and youth.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation commends the contribution of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to the organization of a dialogue between parliamentarians of the world on current issues of contemporary international relations.
Russian Senators note that cooperation between parliamentarians within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy is very important for building confidence between States.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation supports enhanced cooperation with the Central American Parliament, further developing relations with the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, the Parliament of the Southern Common Market, as well as with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation is confident that the Second Russia-Africa Summit to be held in July 2023, in St. Petersburg, will give a new impetus to deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation with the African Parliamentary Union, Pan-African Parliament and parliaments of African States.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation underlines that in order to strengthen the capacity and international role of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation it is vital to increase direct interaction between the parliaments of their States.
Senators of the Russian Federation condemn the imposition of illegal sanctions against Russian parliamentarians by countries of the collective West and emphasize that such actions undermine the foundations of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
On the occasion of the International Parliamentary Day, Russian Senators
call upon their fellow-parliamentarians to work together to facilitate the restoration of a constructive dialogue with a view to reducing tensions between
States and establishing a just multipolar world order based on universally
recognized principles and norms of international law.
