Vladimir Dzhabarov: Russia-Argentina relations are developing in the spirit of a comprehensive strategic partnership

Parliamentary groups on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Argentine Republic held a videoconference.

The Federation Council held a videoconference with the members of the group on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the National Congress of Argentina and their colleagues from the parliamentary group of friendship with Russia of the Argentine Senate.

The Russian party is led by First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov.

The event was attended by members of the group on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Argentine Senate Gennady Ordenov, Olga Starostina, Yuri Fedorov, Igor Chernyshenko and representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Vladimir Dzhabarov emphasised that Russia-Argentina relations are developing in the spirit of a comprehensive strategic partnership. “This trend is confirmed during our regular bilateral contacts. We note a high level of political interaction with the Argentine party in international affairs. Our countries are united by the common striving to strengthen peace and to respect the UN Charter and international law, as well as to build a just multilateral world order.”

The Senator said that Russia and Argentina both adhere to the principles of equality and respect for national sovereignty of all countries and non-interference in their domestic affairs, as well as opposing terrorism, extremism, double standards and unilateral sanctions. “Buenos Aires did not join the anti-Russia sanctions, which creates favourable conditions for improving cooperation between the two countries on international platforms.”

“Since our last meeting in December 2018, we have maintained close ties with the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Moscow, and Russian MPs have taken part in events held in Buenos Aires,” Vladimir Dzhabarov said.

The parties discussed current matters of bilateral cooperation, as well as inter-parliamentary, trade, economic, interregional and cultural ties. They also touched upon the issue of counteracting international terrorism and drug trafficking, as well as cooperation in information security.
