Grigory Karasin: One of the most important aspects of Russia-Mali relations is interparliamentary cooperation

The Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs held a meeting with the recently appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Mali to the Russian Federation.


Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin held a meeting with Ambassador of the Republic of Mali to the Russian Federation Harouna Samake.

Grigory Karasin noted that Russia and Mali are united by traditionally friendly relations and the two countries maintain a regular political and diplomatic dialogue, such as the March 2021 meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia and Mali in Moscow.

According to the Senator, Moscow took note of Mali’s abstention in the UN vote on a resolution regarding the latest developments in Ukraine.

“One of the most important aspects of Russia-Mali relations is interaction between the legislative bodies of authority. We aim to further strengthen interparliamentary cooperation,” Grigory Karasin said.

He noted the common positions of the two countries on current issues of the international and regional agenda, as well as the interaction with Malian partners at the UN and other international platforms.

 Grigory Karasin and Harouna Samake discussed the developments in Donbass and in Ukraine.

Harouna Samake briefed the Senator about the domestic political situation in Mali, as well as relations with neghbouring West African states and with France.

They also touched on the economic, humanitarian and cultural issues, including the training of Malian students in Russian universities.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Mali to the Russian Federation confirmed his country’s interest in boosting bilateral cooperation with Russia in various fields.
