Farit Mukhametshin meets with Secretary-General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Hamid Shahriari

Russia could learn from Iran's experience in anti-sanctions measures, the Senator says.

Farit Mukhametshin, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Hamid Shahriari, Secretary-General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali, Mufti of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of the Russian Federation Albir Krganov, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education Yevgeny Yeryomin and others.

The participants discussed relations between Russia and Iran, other Muslim countries, cooperation in scientific research, experience in preserving ethnic and cultural diversity, and interethnic and interfaith accord in society.

Farit Mukhametshin reported on the meeting of the Russia – Islamic World Strategic Vision Group, held in Kazan this May simultaneously with the 13th International Economic Forum Russia — Islamic World. ”These forums added great importance to the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the official adoption of Islam by the peoples of Volga Bulgaria in Russia,“ the MP stressed.

According to Farit Mukhametshin, the adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria was one of the milestones in the history of Russia and had a significant impact on the formation of the country as a multiethnic state. For centuries, Russian Muslims have made a significant contribution to the development of the country.

The senator underlined the importance of using Iran's experience in economic development in the current international situation. There are also plans to hold one of the meetings of the Russia – Islamic World Strategic Vision Group next year. It will focus on the topic of the Islamic economy, said Farit Mukhametshin.

Hamid Shahriyari pointed to the common interests of Russia and Muslim countries in opposing the ”liberal pseudo-values“ of the West. ”We could resist this within the framework of multiculturalism. We believe that any culture should have the opportunity to present itself, people should have the opportunity to choose freely.”
