Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin meets with Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation Batyr Niyazliev

The Federation Council is working to implement the agreement on cooperation between the upper houses of parliament of Russia and Turkmenistan,“ the Senator said.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation Batyr Niyazliev.

Grigory Karasin noted the strategic partnership that defines relations between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan. In his opinion, bilateral inter-parliamentary relations can be characterised similarly.

The Senator praised the high level of organisation and outcome of the first Inter-Parliamentary Forum of Central Asia and the Russian Federation held in Ashgabat.

“We signed an agreement on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan during the forum and reached an agreement on setting up a commission on cooperation between the upper houses of the two countries’ parliaments, which will be formalised by a separate agreement to be signed in the near future,” said Grigory Karasin.

He noted that the Federation Council is satisfied with the pace of bilateral cooperation in many areas.

“Interregional cooperation is very important for us. We have started working on the establishment of a Russian-Turkmen University project, the implementation of which is essential for the further development of all spheres of professional training. We hope that the work launched by relevant agencies on Turkmenistan’s closer integration with the Eurasian Economic Union will maintain positive momentum. We will assist in every way possible”, Grigory Karasin stressed.

According to Batyr Niyazliev, bilateral cooperation acquired a new impetus after the visit of Turkmenistan’s leader to Moscow, and all prerequisites are in place for expanding strategic partnerships and inter-parliamentary cooperation.

During the meeting Grigory Karasin and Batyr Niyazlyev discussed the schedule of parliamentary visits and their substantive content.

The Turkmen side expressed interest in closer interaction with Russian parliamentarians in the sphere of law-making.
