Grigory Karasin: Expanding cooperation between Russia and the Muslim countries conforms to our common interests

The Senator attended the 14th Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum International Economic Forum.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin spoke at the opening of the 7th Young Diplomats Forum sponsored by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The event took place on the sidelines of the 14th Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum International Economic Forum.

The Senator noted that the world was coming through a difficult and turbulent period. The new generation of specialists in international politics will have to look for ways out of the crisis that the international community is facing today.

“This is the result of the West’s unilateral policy to impose a ‘rules-based’ neo-colonial order on the world majority. This so-called ‘order’ implies an uncontrolled diktat by a group of ‘exceptional’ countries that represent the notorious ‘golden billion,’” the Senator said.

According to Grigory Karasin, in order to resist this diktat, it is important to strengthen and expand cooperation, including in the format of authoritative international organisations, such as the CSTO, EAEU, CIS, BRICS, SCO, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

“Developing relations with friendly Muslim countries is a Russian foreign policy priority. This is evidenced by President of Russia Vladimir Putin’s decision in 2023 to give the Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum International Economic Forum a federal status,” Grigory Karasin said.

The Senator stressed that Russia considered the Islamic World an independent centre of the emerging world order that was due to replace the Anglo-Saxon hegemonism that had proven to be a failure.

He expressed confidence that the 7th Young Diplomats Forum would make an important contribution to developing direct cooperation between diplomatic mission staffs. “It is you, the forum participants, who will determine the foreign policy of your states in this century. Relying on the principles of ‘horizontal diplomacy,’ you will be able to establish a direct and frank dialogue, and discuss the most pressing and acute issues of modern international relations.”

According to Grigory Karasin, the future of diplomacy in the multipolar world, the strengthening of an independent information and educational space, and the creation of mechanisms to counter external interference in the affairs of sovereign states all deserve close attention and an in-depth discussion.

During the forum, Grigory Karasin also took part in the meeting between Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of foreign countries to the Russian Federation.
