The parties discussed the implementation of agreements reached during Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko’s meeting with President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Esperança Bias.
Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Mozambique to the Russian Federation Jose Mateus Muaria Katupha.
The senator noted the long history of the Russia-Mozambique relations, adding that Mozambique is Russia’s reliable partner on the African continent.
He also stressed that contacts between the two countries’ legislative authorities are becoming regular. The meeting participants discussed the implementation of the agreements reached during Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko’s meeting with President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Esperança Bias.
The Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee thanked the Mozambican delegation for their active involvement in the Russia-Africa International Parliamentary Conference, and told the ambassador about the preparations for the second Russia-Africa summit. “We expect a substantial Mozambican delegation to take part in the summit events,” Grigory Karasin noted. According to the senator, the summit’s major goal is to show Russia’s readiness to make every effort to contribute to the strengthening of African states’ sovereignty and offer solutions for boosting trade and economic ties between our countries.
“Russia will make every effort to boost mutually beneficial cooperation with the Republic of Mozambique and provide support in line with the longstanding traditions of friendship and solidarity between our nations,” Grigory Karasin concluded.
Speaking on behalf of President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Esperança Bias, Jose Mateus Muaria Katupha expressed gratitude to Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko for organising the Mozambican delegation’s official visit to Russia at such a high level. The Ambassador informed Mr Karasin about Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi’s decision to take part in the second Russia-Africa summit.
The meeting participants discussed efforts to step up preparations for signing bilateral agreements in various areas of cooperation, to boost mutual trade, economic, financial and humanitarian cooperation, and expand opportunities for young Mozambicans to study at Russian universities.
The meeting was attended by First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov and Head of the Federation Council’s Group for Cooperation with the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Mukharby Ulbashev.
