The group includes parliamentarians from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev held a meeting with a group of international observers from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA CIS) at the presidential election in Russia. Coordinated by Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Regional Policy and Local Self-Government Mikhail Rusy, the group includes parliamentarians from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council noted that the IPA CIS monitoring mission was the most numerous among the delegations of international observers involved in monitoring the presidential election.

Konstantin Kosachev described how voting is organised in Russia and noted that there is high voter turnout.

Mikhail Rusy said that the IPA CIS observers had had meetings with the presidential candidates and visited the Central Election Commission and the RF Civic Chamber’s situation centre involved in monitoring the elections. He added that at the first stage, they had analysed in detail Russia’s legal framework.

According to Mikhail Rusy, IPA CIS observers also visited polling stations in different Russian regions and abroad. Experts, he said, will provide a professional assessment of the presidential election in the Russian Federation.

The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council commented on the years-long effort by the IPA CIS international monitoring institution to track the progress of democracy and parliamentarianism and monitor the exercise of electoral rights. “The experts at this institution are unbiased professionals, who do a high-quality job. Election monitoring practices are being steadily perfected,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin and Secretary General and Head of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council Dmitry Kobitsky.
