Konstantin Kosachev discusses interparliamentary cooperation with IPU Executive Committee member Fadli Zon

The Indonesian MP was in Russia to monitor the presidential election.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev met with Fadli Zon, member of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Palriamentary Union and Chairman of the Committee for Interparliamentary Cooperation in the Indonesian Parliament, who was in Russia to monitor the presidential election.

Konstantin Kosachev pointed out the importance of foreign observers. “Over 700 international observers from 106 counties have been accredited [for the Russian presidential election], including 28 delegations from national parliaments and five delegations from parliamentary organisations, such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation where Indonesia is playing a major role,” the Deputy Speaker said.

The officials also discussed key issues related to interparliamentary cooperation and the development of Russia-Indonesia relations. In particular, Konstantin Kosachev cited the participation of a delegation of the Russian Parliament’s two houses in the international mission of observers at the general election held in Indonesia in February 2024. “Our parliaments and their relevant committees and delegations maintain close and constructive ties at various interparliamentary platforms,” he said.

Fadli Zon noted the high level of relations between Russia and Indonesia.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin took part in the meeting.
