Inna Svyatenko speaks at a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Task Force on Ukraine in Geneva

The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council noted that the Ukrainian regime is deflecting public attention from its outrageous violations of international humanitarian law.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Inna Svyatenko spoke at a meeting of the Task Force on Ukraine under the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Focused on protecting children in the continuing armed conflict, the event took place in Geneva on the sidelines of the 148th IPU Assembly.

Inna Svyatenko co-chairs the Parliamentary Commission on Investigation of the Crimes Against Minors Committed by the Kiev Regime.

The Deputy Speaker pointed out that the official Kiev and its Western supporters are extensively promoting the issue of crimes against children at international platforms, presenting completely fabricated incidents, in particular, concerning underage individuals in Ukraine.

“The purpose of such reports is to deflect the public from the outrageous violations of international humanitarian law by the Nazi regime in Ukraine – the violations that are increasingly difficult to ignore,” Inna Svyatenko said.

She reminded the other members that, to stop the unsubstantiated attacks on our country, a parliamentary commission on investigating crimes of the Kiev regime against minors was created in June 2023. The investigation report will soon be released based on the international classification of major crimes against minors. The parliament members thoroughly documented violations of more than 12 international documents regulating protection of children. All the incidents were substantiated by evidence.

Inna Svyatenko provided more details about the work of the Federal Council chambers to establish and expand a dialogue on children’s protection.

“Russia never put and is not going to put obstacles for children reuniting with their families if relatives report themselves. Moreover, Russia, via its Commissioner for Children’s Rights is providing all necessary assistance with these efforts, Inna Svyatenko stressed.

The Deputy Speaker reported that, for the purpose of bringing the children home, Russia established cooperation with Ukrainian competent bodies but Kiev has been concealing this fact. “The fact that Ukraine withdrew from the Minsk Convention and that there is no coordinated activity between the Ukrainian government bodies is making family dispute resolution and family reunification work substantially more difficult.”

“Russia has confirmed that it is fully ready to cooperate with the IPU on children’s safety and security. The parliamentary commission’s final report will be submitted to the IPU and the United Nations,” Inna Svyatenko summarised.
