Konstantin Kosachev meets with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Tulia Ackson

A number of bilateral meetings took place on the sidelines of the 148th IPU Assembly in Geneva.


Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev held a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

He met with Tulia Ackson, President of the National Assembly of Tanzania, who has assumed office as the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Konstantin Kosachev recalled the longstanding tradition of IPU Presidents visiting Russia and reaffirmed the Federal Assembly's readiness to welcome Tulia Ackson at any time convenient to her.

During the meeting, the Deputy Speaker presented Tulia Ackson with an invitation from the Federation Council Speaker to take part in the 4th Eurasian Women's Forum in September. Additionally, the Deputy Speaker informed her on the preparations for the BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St Petersburg in July.

Konstantin Kosachev also held a bilateral meeting with President of the Arab Parliament Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al Asoomi, who expressed condolences in connection with the terrorist attack in Moscow. He thanked Russia for supporting Arab countries’ position on international and regional issues.

Konstantin Kosachev noted that Russia and the states of the Arab Parliament are united by a common vision of national sovereignty, promotion of national interests and defence of traditional values.

Following the meeting, the participants agreed to explore avenues for institutionalising relations between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Arab Parliament.
