Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko took part in the parity discussion, Looking at a Changing World, held as part of the Fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum. The session was moderated by Margarita Simonyan, Editor-in-Chief of the RT television channel and the Rossiya Segodnya media group.
The global majority shares Russia’s goals and universal traditional values, the Federation Council Speaker emphasised. “The Western countries are aggressively pushing the gender agenda, but the threat is graver than that. We need to be aware of the broader attacks on traditional elements of cultural and social sovereignty in the world,” she warned.
According to Valentina Matvienko, the gender agenda is only one head of the hydra. “It is important to take system-wide action, working across the board to protect all traditional elements of cultural and social sovereignty in the world. Russia has enshrined the traditional spiritual and moral values in the Constitution. This is a good example for other states.”
The Federation Council Speaker believes that family and traditional values act as protection, a civilisational fuse against the liberal machine of the West, which seeks to establish control over the global world in its own interests. “What is worse, they seek to control not humanity, but impersonal biomass. For this purpose, they are consistently destroying everything that shapes the foundation for cultures and civilisations dating back a thousand years,” Valentina Matvienko stressed. She noted the need to legislate against technologies that work to destroy the traditional family. At the same time, the Speaker of the Federation Council stressed that the state always gives both women and men the right to choose whether they want to start a family and have children or not.
“Russia can become a haven for those who share traditional values. But this should not entail a mass migration to our country. It is essential to promote the narratives of traditional values more vigorously,” the Federation Council Speaker stressed.
Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said that Belarusians know the history of their country and honour traditions. “Belarus is not defending itself from the liberal agenda, but lives its own life. Our state has deep historical roots. At the same time, the Constitution of Belarus stipulates that a family is a marriage between a man and a woman.”
Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Russia does not claim to be the leader. “We talk about our experiences, our history and achievements, which we are ready to share with the world.”
The discussion was also attended by senators of the Russian Federation, Head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA of Russia) Veronika Skvortsova, Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Yakovenko, Director of BRICS Institute Binod Singh, and representatives of foreign delegations.
