The Federation Council Speaker met with the head of the Oliy Majlis upper house.
Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko met with Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva as part of her working visit to Uzbekistan to attend the events of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The meeting participants noted that the comprehensive strategic partnership
and alliance between the two
countries had reached a fundamentally new level thanks to their leaders’ efforts. The parliamentarians believe that the main task at the current stage is to implement the decisions and agreements adopted in accordance with the roadmap
approved by the heads of state.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as interregional interaction,
also remain important. According to the speakers of the upper houses of the parliaments, the effective work of the interparliamentary commission makes
a significant contribution to addressing practical issues. They decided to involve the interparliamentary commission in the efforts to expand interregional cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan.
“On the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, we commend Uzbekistan’s efforts to preserve historical
memory and its attention to veterans. It is important that the parliament of Uzbekistan took part in the Memory Train cultural and educational
project, which is an effective tool for developing patriotic and civic
consciousness in the younger generation,” Valentina Matvienko said.
Tanzila Narbayeva noted that the development of international and interparliamentary dialogue with Russia, as well as the promotion of ties
between the two countries’
regions, was a priority.
“Our friendship encompasses all spheres. We fully intend to continue this work
in the future, taking part in joint events both bilaterally and at the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly,” she
said.
