Senators meet with foreign colleagues on the sidelines of the Nevsky International Ecological Congress in St Petersburg

The senators held a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 11^th Nevsky International Ecological Congress in St Petersburg. The discussion centred on expanding interparliamentary collaboration, both bilaterally and at international platforms, with a particular emphasis on developing interregional ties.

First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Andrey Yatskin met with Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Le Minh Hoan. During the conversation, the officials reaffirmed their commitment to implementing a cooperation roadmap between the Federation Council and Vietnam’s National Assembly. “We paid special attention to expanding cooperation between Russian regions and cities and Vietnamese provinces,” Andrey Yatskin said.

Federation Council First Deputy Speaker also met with Eddy Soeparno, Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia. The officials expressed interest in expanding economic and investment cooperation, as well as implementing joint projects in the space industry.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev held meetings with Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Head of Iran’s Department of Environment Shina Ansari, as well as Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Malaysia Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Deputy Speaker of the People’s National Assembly of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Zouhir Nasri, and Deputy Chair of the Committee on Infrastructure, Environmental Issues and Territorial Planning of the State Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia Miroslav Gregoric. The officials discussed various bilateral agenda items, including environmental, social, cultural, humanitarian, economic, and international political matters, as well as efforts to launch interparliamentary collaboration through committees and friendship groups.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Nikolai Zhuravlev had a meeting with Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Sommad Pholsena. They explored in great detail prospects for economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. Federation Council Deputy Speaker informed his Lao counterpart that the Russian Parliament had ratified a bilateral agreement on military cooperation earlier that week.

Senators Mohmad Akhmadov and Yulia Lazutkina met with Chair of the Health, General Services and the Environment Committee of the Consultative Assembly (Shura Council) of the State of Qatar Mubarak Al-Kuwari.

Attending the meeting were Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Inna Svyatenko, Chair of the Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy Alexander Dvoinykh, Chair of the Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova, Chair of the Committee on the Rules of Procedure and Parliamentary Governance Vyacheslav Timchenko, and Russian Senators Dmitry Vasilenko, Andrei Yepishin, Gennady Ordenov, and Tatiana Sakharova.
