Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev met with the Cuban Ambassador to Russia

Russia and Cuba are bound by time-tested friendship, noted Konstantin Kosachev.

The meeting was held in connection with the end of Julio Antonio Garmendia Pena’s mandate as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation.

“Over the years, the Federation Council has made a significant contribution to advancing Russian-Cuban bilateral projects and implementing agreements reached at the top and high levels,” noted the Deputy Speaker.

He conveyed to the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission the words of gratitude from the Federation Council Speaker, who emphasised Julio Antonio Garmendia Pena’s contribution to strengthening cooperation between the two countries and expanding interparliamentary ties through diplomatic channels.

“There is still a great deal of work ahead of us, and we will continue it without slowing down,” stated Konstantin Kosachev.

Julio Antonio Garmendia Pena emphasised that Russian-Cuban relations remain at a high level and thanked Russian senators for their support in addressing pressing bilateral issues. He particularly mentioned the 100 Scholarships Programme for Cuban students in Russia and the restoration of the Capitol dome in Havana – projects that, he said, would not have been possible without the involvement of the Federation Council and its Speaker.

The parties also discussed prospects for advancing joint projects in the fields of economy and trade, paying special attention to cooperation in education and culture.
