The event was held under the aegis of the Moscow City Duma.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev spoke at a ceremony of validating the application from the members of the BRICS Capitals Parliamentary Movement.
“Although the ten participating capitals are very different, they deal with similar problems that concern the public. Our states’ intention to strengthen cooperation across different areas confirms that BRICS is an effective group, and that the Capitals Parliamentary Movement will contribute to traditional diplomacy. At the same time, it is people’s diplomacy, whose 100th anniversary we celebrate these days, that lies at the root of the association,” the Deputy Speaker noted.
The ceremony was attended by Speaker of the Moscow City Duma Alexei Shaposhnikov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, Moscow Government Minister Sergei Cheryomin, heads of diplomatic missions, and senior officials of the BRICS capitals and their partners.
