The Senator held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin held a meeting with Hamdy Shaaban, the new Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Russian Federation.
Grigory Karasin pointed out the traditionally friendly bilateral ties, which are promoting peace in the region and stability in the world as a whole. “Russia and Egypt are maintaining a positive dynamics of bilateral relations at the level of foreign policy coordination, business activity, interparliamentary ties, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation. All this is fully in keeping with the interstate Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation,” the Senator noted.
The officials spoke about the consistently high level of Russian-Egyptian interaction facilitated by confidential relations between their heads of state.
They pointed out the growth of bilateral trade and the implementation of major economic, energy, scientific and technical, as well as humanitarian projects. These include the construction of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant, El Dabaa, based on Russian technology, preparations to set up the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, the operation of large Russian fuel and energy companies in Egypt, a guaranteed large volume of Russian grain exports to Egypt, and the training of over 11,000 Egyptian students in Russia.
The sides also noted that contacts between members of parliament were vital for promoting bilateral cooperation.
Hamdy Shaaban proposed intensifying interaction at the level of international committees and friendship groups of the two countries’ upper houses of parliament after their renewal.
The sides also discussed the schedule of interparliamentary contacts for 2026, including interaction at international parliamentary organisations and within BRICS.
They also held an in-depth exchange of view on the Middle East settlement and the Ukraine crisis.
