Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko meets with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev

The President of Kazakhstan visited the Federation Council as part of his state visit to Russia.


Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko held a meeting with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev.

Valentina Matvienko expressed certainty that the President’s current state visit to Russia would provide a powerful impetus to the further intensification, expansion and development of Russian-Kazakhstani relations across the board.

According to the Speaker, these relations develop dynamically and are in the ascendant.

She thanked the Kazakhstani leader for his contribution to bilateral and multilateral interparliamentary collaboration.

Kasym-Jomart Tokayev highly appreciated the role of interparliamentary diplomacy in interstate relations.

The officials held a detailed exchange of views on the main issues related to Russian-Kazakhstani ties, including the economy, the social sphere, education and science.

Kasym-Jomart Tokayev focused on priorities in Kazakhstan’s development.

They also discussed international issues.

The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Speaker and Russian Co-chair of the Commission for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Andrey Yatskin, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs and Deputy Co-chair of the Commission for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Andrei Shevchenko, and Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova.
