The Tajikistani leader also held a joint meeting with the heads of delegations from the CIS member states visiting Dushanbe for the session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko has met with President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
The speaker chaired a Russian parliamentary delegation that visited Dushanbe for the autumn session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. Shortly before that, Valentina Matvienko was re-elected as Chair of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council.
The speaker pointed out the high standards of the IPA CIS events in Dushanbe and Tajikistan’s successful chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2025. She expressed gratitude to the President of Tajikistan for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the participants of the IPA CIS events in Dushanbe.
Valentina Matvienko conveyed the message of greetings from President Vladimir Putin to President Rahmon. She stated that the members of parliament of Russia and Tajikistan are doing their utmost to provide legislative support for the implementation of agreements reached by the heads of state, including following the Russian President’s state visit to Tajikistan in October 2025.
“A large block of documents signed [during the visit] is aimed at further strengthening and expanding our multifaceted cooperation. Our countries’ parliaments have synchronised their activities so that these agreements promptly come into effect.”
The speaker noted that it is primarily thanks to the efforts of the two countries’ presidents that substantial progress has been achieved in the development of bilateral economic, investment and humanitarian cooperation over the past few years.
Emomali Rahmon emphasised the high level of allied relations between our nations as well as the importance of developing interparliamentary cooperation at the bilateral level and within the CIS.
The President of Tajikistan also held a joint meeting with the heads of delegations from the CIS member states visiting Dushanbe for the session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
He welcomed the visiting members of parliaments, wishing them success at the IPA CIS session.
Valentina Matvienko and the other heads of delegations attended a flower-laying ceremony at the Monument to Ismoil Somoni in Dushanbe.
