The senators spoke with the leadership of Transnistria via videoconference.
Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin and the Committee’s First Deputy Chair Vladimir Dzhabarov spoke with leaders of executive and legislative branches of Transnistria via videoconference.
“Russian senators are closely following the situation in the region. We are concerned by its recent deterioration, despite assurances from Moldovan authorities of their commitment to the peace process. We are convinced that any form of pressure on Transnistria, including economic pressure, is ineffective and leads the peace process into a dead end,” Grigory Karasin said.
He drew attention to Western narratives on the need to establish new dialogue platforms on the Transnistria issue.
“We see these proposals as an attempt to undermine the internationally recognised and time-tested 5+2 format. We are convinced that any attempt to reshape the Transnistria peace process without Russia’s participation is doomed to fail,” Grigory Karasin stressed.
The videoconference participants coordinated their positions regarding the political and socioeconomic situation in Transnistria.
Speaker of the Transnistria Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, Prime Minister of the Transnistria Government Alexander Rozenberg and Foreign Minister of Transnistria Vitaly Ignatyev discussed the current situation in the republic in the areas of foreign policy, the economy and energy.
