The countries maintain close foreign policy coordination, stressed the Senator.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Sami Bin Mohammed Abdullah Alsadhan, who arrived in Russia to assume his duties in early October.

“Russian-Saudi ties continue to develop dynamically. We maintain close foreign policy coordination,” noted Grigory Karasin.

The Senator reminded the Ambassador that their countries were set to mark the 100th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and that Saudi Arabia would take part in the 29th St Petersburg International Economic Forum as a guest.

According to Grigory Karasin, Russian-Saudi interparliamentary relations are steadily growing. He also reiterated that the cooperation group with the Consultative Assembly of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, headed by Senator Belan Khamchiev, is actively working in the Federation Council. The chair of the Committee for Foreign Affairs underscored the role played by legislators in assisting with preparations for the intergovernmental Agreement on the Mutual Abolition of Visa Requirements for holders of all types of passports.

“The trend of increasing tourist exchanges continues. We are confident that the launch of direct scheduled flights between Riyadh and Moscow will provide additional impetus to this,” the Senator said.

Sami Bin Mohammed Abdullah Alsadhan reaffirmed the Saudi side’s commitment to further qualitative changes in bilateral relations. The Ambassador expressed readiness to continue contacts with Russian parliamentarians.

During their conversation, Grigory Karasin elaborated on the Russian Federation’s position regarding the Ukraine settlement. The parties also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East.
