Galina Karelova takes part in Women’s Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean

The Senator shared Russian experience in expanding women’s rights and opportunities to build cohesive and inclusive communities.

First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs, Chair of the Eurasian Women’s Forum, Galina Karelova, is taking part in the Women’s Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean in Abu Dhabi.

The Senator recalled that Russia has been and remains among countries that advocate for the empowering of women. While discussing support for women, Galina Karelova noted that Russia was implementing a National Strategy of Actions in the Interests of Women, as well as a programme to create favourable conditions for combining careers and motherhood.

The second session of the Women’s Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean is taking place under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. The forum brings together participants from over 30 countries.

The session was titled Empowering Women to Build Cohesive and Inclusive Communities: From the Gulf to the Mediterranean. The discussions will focus on empowering women in the economic and political spheres, supporting women in education, healthcare and environmental sustainability, the role of women in the fight against terrorism, and preventing and countering violent extremism.

Galina Karelova also expressed confidence that female MPs attending the Forum would take a new step for expanding the international women’s agenda.

“Taking part in the forum is yet another opportunity to convey our values and our openness for joint actions to the global women's community, and present Russian initiatives and the results of Russia’s work in the interests of women to the female community of the Mediterranean,” Chair of the Council of the Eurasian Women’s Forum and Senator Galina Karelova noted.
