The officials discussed the invigoration of bilateral cooperation, including its parliamentary component, as well as regional and global security issues.
Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Russian Federation Sami bin Mohammed Al-Sadhan.
The officials noted that the Russian-Saudi ties continued to develop dynamically in all areas, including the economy and politics. Regular contacts between heads of state, prime ministers, and foreign ministers of both countries played a significant role in this regard.
They praised the high level of inter-parliamentary cooperation and interaction between parliamentary Friendship Groups. Konstantin Kosachev told his interlocutor that Russia would soon send invitations via parliamentary channels to its partners to take part in observing Russia’s upcoming parliamentary elections. “The Kingdom’s Consultative Assembly is certainly among them.”
They also discussed cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Konstantin Kosachev thanked his Saudi colleagues for supporting the Intervision Song Contest, which Saudi Arabia is to host later this year.
Ambassador Sami bin Mohammed Al-Sadhan reminded his interlocutor that in 2026, our countries will mark the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. He noted both countries’ intent on expanding and forwarding cooperation, evidenced by the growth of political and business contacts, the introduction of a visa-free regime for tourist travel, and the decision to resume regular air service.
They also discussed the international and regional situation. Konstantin Kosachev informed the Ambassador about Russia updating its Collective Security Concept for the Persian Gulf and its active efforts to help stabilise the situation in the region.
The officials emphasised the importance of achieving stable agreements between the United States, Iran, and other countries of the region for the sake of ensuring the stability of the entire regional security architecture.
