The Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs received the Chairman of the HAMAS Political Bureau.
Grigory Karasin, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, received Ismail Haniyeh, Chairman of the HAMAS Political Bureau, who is heading a Palestinian delegation on a visit to Russia. Sergei Kislyak, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Farit Mukhametshin, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, took part in the discussion.
Grigory Karasin said the Federation Council appreciates this opportunity to exchange opinions with the Palestinian representatives. “We consider it necessary to regularly coordinate our positions on key aspects on the regional agenda,” the member of parliament noted.
He added that the Russian Parliament also appreciated the strong position of Russia’s Palestinian partners who have not changed their commitment to maintain good relations with Russia despite Western pressure in connection with Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.
Grigory Karasin informed Ismail Haniyeh about the pace of the special military operation.
Ismail Haniyeh said he was satisfied with the fact that the Federation Council was paying close attention to the Palestinian issue. He reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s solidarity with the people of Russia in the fight against terrorism and nationalism and denounced the sanctions against members of parliament.
During the discussion, the parties focused on the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian problem.
Grigory Karasin emphasised the importance of preserving Palestinian national unity and the need for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as soon as possible under the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly.
